There was an excellent turnout at last week's LMC 2019 Conference held in London and organised by Rachel McMahon, chair of conference. The webcast will be available shortly but in the meantime, if you would like to read Richard Vautrey's speech in full, please click on this link:
LMC's have demanded increased flexibility around additional roles recruitment in PCN's, while voting to give clinical directors more protection to avoid excessive workloads. GP's at the 2019 England LMCs conference in London warned that current rules in the additional roles reimbursement scheme (ARRS) were holding back recruitment, and backed a motion calling for PCN's to be able to retain funding if they failed to recruit. In September, NHS England (NHSE) had suggested that PCN's who fail to spend their share of funding were likely to see the money diverted elsewhere.
The 2019 Salford and Trafford LMC AGM will be held on Monday 2 December 2019 at the AC Hotel by Marriott Manchester Salford Quays. An overview of LMC business will open proceedings. Guest speaker Chris Lawlor will provide an update from the General Medical Council, followed by a valuable insight into the impact of digital health providers on General Practice in London from Dr Jackie Applebee.
We are delighted to also confirm that our AGM is being sponsored this year by: Abbott *** Consilient Health *** Thornton Ross *** Bristol Myers Squibb.

The NHS could be set to pay doctors' pension tax bills in a move the BMA says could ease pressure on the health service ahead of a winter predicted to be its worse on record. Doctors' leaders and accountants have been warning for months that the government's failure to address the impact of tax penalties on pension contributions on the NHS workforce would severely undermine capacity - and the BMA believes the health service is now heading for its most difficult winter ever. A damning report published earlier this month showed that NHS organisations across the UK were struggling to maintain services as doctors across multiple specialities reduced working hours or refused extra shifts to avoid heavy tax penalties.
With the general election in December, the BMA have just published their manifesto for health where they set out their priorities for any incoming government reform. The main headliners are:
- reform the punitive pension tax system for doctors
- pay doctors fairly and address historic underpayments
- legislate for safe staffing
- increase spending on the NHS by 4%
- give the public the say on any final Brexit deal
